Virginia is for Heterosexual Lovers Who Aren't Wearing Thongs

How about that for a title? For those of you who don't know, the Virginia state tourism motto or theme is Virginia is for Lovers. Based on some of the proposed laws by the Virginia legislature, the motto may need to be changed. First, the Virginia House approved a state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. The vote was 78-18! The Senate approved a similar resolution on Monday. If the measure passes both chambers, it will be put on the ballot in November 2006. I still do not understand why this needs to be a law. The current divorce rate in the U.S. is over 50%. People really think that banning gay marriage (even though it's not currently legal to begin with) will solve the nation's problems?

Want an extremely ridiculous law? (I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP). The Virginia House passed a bill that "Provides that any person who exposes his below-waist undergarments in a lewd or indecent manner shall be assessed a $50 civil penalty." Basically, if a woman shows her thong, she will be fined $50.

To Virginia lawmakers: focus your time on the budget, education, and fixing the traffic problems!!
