Debate: Loading the Dishwasher

Most of us are probably counting down the hours until the three-day weekend begins and don't want to deal with anything too thought-provoking. That's probably also the reason you visit this blog! A few months ago, I mentioned that I would bring up topics for debate on occasion. Well, today is one of those days, so put on your thinking cap (or perhaps a beret).

Topic: How do you load silverware into the dishwasher?

1. Load knives and forks facing upward.
2. Load knives and forks facing downward.

I left spoons out of this discussion (you'll see why momentarily), but I would consider sporks in this conversation.

There are clear pros and cons with both scenarios. Loading the silverware with the points upward probably cleans the silverware better. However, loading the silverware downward prevents you from stabbing yourself when you are emptying the dishwasher.

Thoughts? Comments? The debate starts now!

This is the second time this week a blog that I read has asked this question. I load all silverware with the handles facing up. I don't want to stab myself with a knife or fork. The spoons go handle up because I am a wee bit OCD at times and they all have to go in the same direction.

facing upward... I live dangerously...

Facing up, so any water will run down the handle while drying and reduce the appearance of water spots on the eating portion of the utensils.

Top down. I don't have a reason for it. I just had to choose one way or the other and that is what I chose.

Nichole - Someone must have stolen my thoughts to create a blog post! As for how you load the silverware, I completely agree with you. I worry about stabbing myself.

Captain - Do you live dangerously enough to get on Real World: DC?

Gilahi - That makes a lot of sense.

Hand of Godard - You could always alternate depending of the day.

If you haven't figured it out already, I have the forks and knives facing down and the spoons facing up.

getting on TRW wouldn't be dangerous... it would be completely undesirable... but not dangerous... (gawking, however, might be)
