Trivia Tuesday

Have you ever wondered how long you could survive in the vacuum of space without a spaceship or space suit? I haven't either though I did watch the first two episodes of Extant starring Halle Berry. Anyway, this short quiz can determine how long you could survive. Apparently, I could last 1 minute, 11 seconds though I would lose consciousness at 15 seconds.

How long could you survive in the vacuum of space?

Yes, this may be dumb, but it's a somewhat entertaining. Enjoy (and please share your results in the comments section below)!

What American Accent Do You Have?

I'm not sure whether or not this counts as Trivia Tuesday, but regardless this is a fun little quiz to determine your American accent. Please note that the Pittsburgh accent is not one of the final results.

In case you are wondering, this is my score:

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: North Central

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.

The West

The Midland

Boston

The Inland North

The South

Philadelphia

The Northeast

This makes no sense to me. I don't think anyone has mistaken me for Canadian, eh. I thought the characters in "Fargo" sounded out of the ordinary. I only heard of "Uff Da" when I visited Minnesota as part of my 2007 hockey road trip.

Take the quiz yourself here and share your results in the comments section below.

The actual percentages for me are as follows:

North Central - 88%
The West - 84%
The Midland - 83%
Boston - 62%
The Inland North - 41%
The South - 34%
Philadelphia - 22%

Social Attitude Test

There was a time earlier in this blog's history where I regularly shared fun tests and quizzes. For example, there was the Mensa Quiz, the 8th grade science quiz, the select a Presidential candidate quiz and a quiz aimed to test your innate intelligence by posing a series of questions involving tricky travel situations. I miss those days.

Anyway, I found this social attitude test and thought I would share this today. Please note that according to the website, "unlike many other political tests found on the Internet which base themselves on untested (and usually ideologically motivated) ideas, this inventory is adapted from Hans Eysenck's own political inventory which was developed after extensive empirical investigations in the 20th Century." With that, here are my results:

These scores indicate that you are a tender-minded progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with an animal rights activist. It appears that you are moderate towards religion, and have a balanced attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear capitalist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a political centrist.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a centrist with few strong opinions.

First, I'm not sure that I consider being associate with an animal rights activist as a good thing. Sure, I'm against dog-fighting and support ethical treatment of animals, but I really enjoy a good burger. While religion is important to me, I find it personal and don't like people preaching their views and proselytizing. I think a political centrist with few strong opinions is fairly accurate. I'm generally for compromise and want people to get along though I feel that I lean towards being socially liberal.

Feel free to take the quiz and share your results in the comments section below.

Friday Quiz

To start your weekend, take the Independence Day quiz made up of 30 questions, 20 of which are found on the actual United States citizenship test. The last ten questions are a bit harder, and according to the site, "a score of around 24 out of 30 is considered a passing grade." (What does around mean? Can you pass with a 22 or 23?)

I scored a 23, which does not seem very good, but is better than the average score of any individual state.

Take the quiz and feel free to share your results.

Game Time

This may be the most difficult quiz I have ever posted. Your challenge is to name 50 songs based on the complete lyrics of each song. Sounds easy enough, right? However, the lyrics are placed in alphabetical order, with each word appearing no more than once (regardless of how many times it appears in the actual song). For example, let’s take the first line of the song "Luka" by Suzanne Vega. (I have no idea why I selected this song since it’s a really easy example. How many songs do you know with "Luka" in the lyrics?) The first line of the song is:

My name is Luka I live on the second floor.

For the sake of this example, let’s also say that this is the only line of the song, repeated over and over again. The quiz would show the lyrics as:

floor I is live Luka my name on second the

Just a warning that this quiz may take around 30 minutes, so this could be a weekend activity. As a hint, most songs tend to be classic rock and R&B songs. In addition, there is only one song from the past 20 years. In case you were wondering, I scored a 25. My friend Jason managed to get a 36.

The second game doesn’t take nearly as long. In fact, if you make it to 18 seconds, you’re doing great. My record is 19 seconds, but I’ve only done that once in dozens of attempts. Click and hold the red square and move it so that you neither touch the walls nor get hit by any of the blue blocks. According to honeykbee, Air Force candidates are required to make it to two minutes, minimum. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to get to the game here without clicking on this link, but this is what the game looks like.

Again, click here to play the game. Good luck!
