Okay, this commercial bothers me.
Carl is apparently an independent broker, and Charles Schwab is his nemesis. This might be the 5th or 10th or 15th commercial Schwab ad featuring Carl. I don't know. Anyway, in this commercial, Carl goes to the hospital to visit his clients who just had a baby. And by just had a baby, we’re talking day of or the day before. The baby is not in the NICU and mom seems to be doing okay, so this seems like it’s going to be a short hospital stay for the new baby. I’m getting off track.
Carl knows the family well enough to know that the baby was born and is a girl and that the family is at a specific hospital. Clearly, Carl has some type of relationship with them to show up at the hospital. Maybe they haven’t talked in a while (since the new parents were preparing for the baby), but Carl doesn’t show up at the hospital without a relationship. And what do the parents and new grandpa say?
They dumped Carl without even telling him. Sure, Schwab might have better brokers and resources than Carl, but is anyone from there visiting their clients at the hospital? Seems unlikely. Now, Carl should have given the family a better gift. Balloons look nice but are useless. Maybe a Target gift card for diapers. Is there a registry for clothes or burp clothes? A stroller might be a little much, but showing up with just balloons isn’t enough. Now, if the Schwab people got the family a gift, I might feel better about the situation. Still, the family should have let Carl know that they switched to Schwab.
Justice for Carl!
