New Giveaway (Car Advice Needed)

We interrupt the string of Pittsburgh Steelers-related posts for a brand new giveaway courtesy of CSN Stores. Are you looking for modern dining room furniture? Consider clicking the previous link to CSN's All Modern website for a wide variety of furniture. Now that we've have the CSN plug, here's the 411. (Does anyone use that phrase anymore?) I am giving away a $45 gift certificate to use at any of CSN's 200+ websites. If you want something with a Steelers logo on it, they have it. It's Super Bowl week, so I couldn't write a post without mentioning the Pittsburgh Steelers now could I?

Anyway, to enter this contest, all you need to do is leave a comment below. While you can simply just provide a way for me to contact you in case you win, I'll also provide a topic. We're looking for a new car in the small SUV category. Toyota's RAV-4, Honda's CRV and Kia's Sorrento are the early favorites. If you own any of these cars or a similar model, what are your thoughts? Would you recommend it? Do you have any consumer report information for any of these vehicles? Any information is greatly appreciated.

Please enter your comment by Wednesday, February 2nd (Groundhog Day!) at 9:00 PM Eastern time. I'll choose the winner via Random.org. One entry per person. CSN can only ship their products to the United States and Canada, so I’m sorry that my many readers from across the globe cannot enter. Good luck!

Lovely! Thanks for the chance.

I wish I knew something about cars to help you, but unfortunately I don't.

Consumer Reports recommends all three of those cars. I have a Honda (not the CRV) and have been pretty pleased. I actually wanted to get the CRV when I got my car in 2007, but it was little out of my price range. I haven't met anyone that is unhappy with their CRV or RAV-4; don't know anyone with the Sorrento. I have access to Consumer Reports online and I able to print to PDF a comparison of all three cars for you, which I will send to your yahoo email listed on FB.

I have a Honda Civic and love it. Looking for my next one to be the CR-V - I've wanted one for a long time. Glad to see Consumer Reports recommends it :)

A former boss of mine has the RAV-4 and he's driven it all over and it's held up well.

Plug for including a domestic option in your search (it's like the Rooney Rule for car buying)! Consider the Ford Escape.

I followed Marc's advice on Ford both in buying a car in 2005 (Freestyle, since discontinued, but great car for parents) and then in buying Ford stock in early 2009, which has since increased by 800%. He will steer you right.

My only advice is to avoid a regular car with a regular bench back seat. I threw out my back taking the infant car seat in and out all the time. I'd recommend a vehicle that's higher up from the ground, preferably with captain's chairs.

I have the Toyota Venza (slightly bigger than the RAV4, but smaller than the Highlander) and LOVE it. It's a bit lower to the ground than the RAV4 (or Highlander), which I like because it's a little higher than a regular car but a short person like me doesn't have to "climb" into it, very easy to get in and out of. Feels very spacious and comes with lots of great options automatically (including my favorite keyless entry/exit/start). Good value for the money. Don't think RAV4 comes with as many options.

I don't have any of those so the best advice I can give is "Consider buying American". American made car = American jobs saved + money kept in American economy.

Good luck, whatever you decide. I'll still be your friend even if you wind up being the demise of the entire country.

I love my Ford Escape. It's so much easier to get a car seat and wiggling toddler in and out of it than a car that sits lower to the ground!

Hi, I don't have experience with those actual cars but I do have a preference for Toyota, having loved my Camry!
Thanks so much for the giveaway!

I like the Rav 4, but would go with the car with the best gas mileage.

hi

I know someone with a RAV4 who likes it (older model though). The gas mileage doesn't seem so great, but I'm not sure how it compares with the other similar models. It's pretty comfortable. Another issue is that it only has one drink holder and it's located practically in the back seat--they may have fixed that by now, but it's extremely annoying!

Sea, I like how you left people options for cars and many said "Option D: The Escape." You may or may not remember that we got our Escapes with the intention that they would be great babymobiles. It's just that after 7-8 years, we forgot about the babies. Anyway, our Escapes have not been good with gas because they are 6-cylinder; however, others in the family have purchased 4-cylinder Escapes and are much happier with their MPG.

I am quite certain I will win your giveaway, as I have no idea what CSN means (Comcast Sports Net?)

Hey Sean! My sister loves her Rav4 but Marc also loves his Nissan Murano. Different than what you were thinking, but we are really happy with it, although sometimes he says he thinks it is a 'girly' SUV. :) give everyone my best. --ilyssa

I don't own any of those cars and therefore do not have any thoughts. Normally my thoughts aren't very reliable anyway.

Saturn Vues are the best SUV for price, gas mileage, reliability etc. unfortunately since GM no longer makes Saturn and sold all of the dealerships, they are VERY hard to find. I suggest you look online on Craig's list or Auto-Trader. The last ones were made in 2009. Good luck to you and good luck to me!
