The Washington Post announced the winners of their Peeps Show IV contest. This is the ultimate winner based on the movie Up:

Staying on the Peeps theme, the Wegmans Dulles has an event this Saturday where "kids and parents will have a great time making cheesy carrots and decorating cupcakes with Peeps."

Peeps Take DC By Storm

Perhaps this is not the best headline based on the huge amount of snow (20 inches for us) that fell in the DC area on Saturday. Regardless, the first ever Peeps store, called Peeps & Co., opened at National Harbor just last week. It looks like a a fun place with more than just Peeps. Odds and Ends

I’ve wanted to share some additional Las Vegas stories* for some time now and figured I would throw in a few links as well. Well, now is that time.

* When I checked into my Vegas hotel, I casually handed the person at the reception desk $20 and asked if they had a complimentary upgrade. The individual said yes, moved us from the South Tower to a nicer room in the North Tower and handed us a coupon book with buy one, get one free tickets to Penn & Teller and Jubilee, two free admissions up the Eiffel Tower and more.

* I did my good deed of the month by giving the Eiffel Tower coupon to a grandmother who was taking her two grandchildren up the Vegas version of Paris monument.

* If anyone is heading to Vegas soon and would like come coupons, please let me know. Although the coupons indicate that they are non-transferable or available for resale, how would they know?

* I attended my first and last timeshare presentation. The theme: vacation or die. Basically, life is short so you should take advantage of time away with family and friends as often as possible. What better way to do this than spending $5000 a year on a timeshare? Does anyone have a timeshare and want to explain how this makes sense financially?

* The timeshare presentation and tour ended up taking three hours instead of the two that the promised. During the presentation, they also said that they would not hard-sell. Naturally, at the end of everything, they brought in the closer, Fat Tony (his name was Tony and he was larger than The Simpsons character of the same name). He did a hard-sale.

I almost cried when I went to Wegmans last week because they had their Passover display up already. I'm not looking forward to matzo. They also had an Easter display featuring countless boxes of Peeps. Hooray for Peeps! Speaking of Peeps, entries for the 3rd annual Peeps Diorama Contest are due by 11:59 on March 15. Ithaca College (Go Bombers!) is hosting the Sport, Sexuality, and Culture Conference on March 18-20. Speakers include USA Today's Christine Brennan and former Penn State and NBA player John Amaechi. This should be an interesting conference, but I can't see ESPN or Sports Illustrated covering it (even though they should). [Ithaca College]

Congratulations to Hand of Godard for the comment of the week on my post, Penguins Should Acquire Stillman and Nash:

I love the idea of getting Nash, but I think it would be a stretch to get Stillman. As long as we could keep Jordan Staal, I propose getting Marc Staal from the Rangers as well as prospect Bryan Young from the Edmonton Oilers. I think a Crosby, Staals, Nash and Young power play would be exciting.

Finally, there is a good chance that I will have a major announcement here on Monday that will certainly be of interest if you're a member of the Pittsburgh diaspora living in the Washington DC area (or even if you live in Washington but have no Pittsburgh connections).

Peeps Extravaganza

Many people around the world are observing Easter today, and what better way to celebrate than with Peeps. You know Peeps, the marshmallow tasty treats that according to the Peeps website (where you can also join the Peeps fan club) is the best selling non-chocolate Easter candy for the last decade. People have become extremely creative with their Peeps over the years. Take a look at the amazing artwork, including “Peep Art” by Ilana Greenstein and Jane Dokko pictured here, from The Washington Post’s second annual Peeps Diorama Contest. There are some truly incredible creations.

In more Peeps news, Metro uses Peeps to encourage people to take Metro to get to the new Nationals stadium. Hopefully, Metro did not spend the money for this video in place of purchasing a few new trains.



Finally, although this is not Peeps related, I went to Wegmans this afternoon for my weekly grocery shopping trip. Although we arrived just after 5:00, the Kosher food section was already closed. Due to Easter. Please note that the regular deli was open until 6:00.
