Trivia Tuesday: Super Bowl Music Performers Edition

Let's go back to a happy time: February 1, 2009. A day when the Steelers won the Super Bowl. A day when James Harrison turned in the greatest play in Super Bowl history only to be matched a few hours later by Ben Roethlisberger and Santonio Holmes. A day when someone performed at the halftime show, but who was that person and/or band? Today's challenge is to name the celebrity acts that performed at each of these Super Bowls.

1. XLIII (2009; this is the year the Super Bowl was played not the 2009 season)

2. XLII (2008)

3. XLI (2007)

4. XL (2006)

5. XXXIX (2005)

6. XXVIII (2004)

7. XXXVII (2003)

8. XXXVI (2002)

9. XXXV (2001)

10. XXXIV (2000)

At trivia night, we were given the ten artists that performed in a multiple choice format. I'm not going to give you that option...for now. See how you do, and as usual, do not use the internet to search for answers. Please leave your answers in the comments section below. If you are struggling and need some help, I will provide some names later. Good luck!

  2. Only Neena was brave enough to attempt this week's quiz, so I think I'll offer some help. Neena was correct with 7 of her answers. (I'm giving her credit for the Rolling Stones.) Let's go through the names and see if you can figure out the ones Neena got correct and the others.

    Paul McCartney
Shania Twain, No Doubt, Sting (they performed together)
Aerosmith, 'N Sync, Britney, Mary J. Blige, Nelly (they performed together)
    Price
    Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Phil Collins, Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias, Toni Braxton, 80-person choir (together)
    U2
    Rolling Stones
Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Jessica Simpson, Nelly, P Diddy, Kid Rock (all together)

Who would have thought that in the past 10 years, only one artist (I'm not counting Timberlake) performed twice and that that artist would be Nelly?

  3. Clearly, but mostly in my mind, Aerosmith has performed every year when it wasn't memorable to me. Not to say that I don't like Aerosmith, just that I thought they'd be repeat performers for sure! And, let's be honest, the real reason I know who the performers were in SB43 and SB X-tra Large is because of a certain contender donned in Black 'N Gold.

  4. Neena - I like Aerosmith but it does seem like they have performed at the Super Bowl every year. Regarding the performances during SB40 & SB 43, for the most part, I blocked them out. I was too concerned with the games so I think I actually talked to people and ate food at halftime. Two things that I didn't do very well during the games themselves!
