Look at these two menu items and see if there is a significant difference:
1. Tuna Cheddar Sandwich: Homemade tuna salad, cheddar, shredded romaine & Così vinaigrette.
2. Tuna Melt: Tomato, melted sharp cheddar and Così vinaigrette.
The sandwich has lettuce while the melt has tomatoes. Otherwise, they both have tuna, cheddar cheese and the Così vinaigrette. So why is it that the melt costs $6.39 while the price of the sandwich is $5.99? Does it really cost 40 cents just to put the tuna melt in a toaster?
I'm sure that the tomatoes are the culprit. Lots of places charge extra for them, making them a "premium" over stupid boring lettuce.
ReplyDeleteIt's the "melt" that makes it more expensive, I would guess. The added work of grilling. If they just stick it in a toaster, then they're ripping you off a good solid quarter.
ReplyDeleteAndy, you may be right about the tomato. However, I think you can add a tomato to the Tuna Cheddar without being charged extra.
ReplyDeleteIt may just be the toasting experience.
I just went there. A Greek salad and a soup ended up costing $11.xx. Never again, I'm cured.
ReplyDeleteIf u worry about .40 cent then go to McDonalds you cheap bastered.
ReplyDelete$11 for a sit down soup and salad sounds reasonable to me... I do live in an area with a high cost of living however
