Trivia Tuesday: NFL Stadium Edition

I apologize for the long delay between Trivia Tuesdays. The end of summer and certain obligations made it difficult to attend trivia night recently. We made it last night, so I’ll share those questions next week. In the meantime, as I was cleaning out my childhood bedroom this weekend, I found a book published in 1980 titled “The First Official NFL Trivia Book” by Ted Brock and Jim Campbell. There is some fascinating information and questions in this book that is now nearly 30 years old.

Your challenge for today is to name the stadium where the following NFL teams played its home games in 1980:

1. Baltimore Colts
2. Buffalo Bills
3. Los Angeles Rams
4. Minnesota Vikings
5. New England Patriots
6. New York Giants
7. New York Jets
8. Pittsburgh Steelers (since this question is way too easy for Steelers – and probably all football – fans, include what year the stadium opened)
9. San Diego Chargers
10. Seattle Seahawks

Please note that none of these stadiums had corporate names. In addition, although some of these teams may play at the same stadium now that they did then, I’m looking for the name of the stadium in 1980.

As always, please leave your answers in the comments section and don’t use the internet to search for answers.

Good luck!

I'll pick off the easy ones...

3) LA Coliseum
5) Foxboro
6&7) Meadowlands
8) Three Rivers; 1970

Marc - While Three Rivers and the year are correct, the other 4 you answered are incorrect. Not as easy as you thought!

Nice job Neena! 5 for 5!

We're still looking for #2, #4, #6 & #7.

2. Bills -- Ralph Wilson stadium
4. Vikings -- HHH Metrodome
7. Jets -- Shea Stadium

(I'll guess Shea for the Giants, too, but I thought they played in NJ for a while. Was the Meadowlands called Giants Stadium back then? I thought that was a recent innovation)

the Bills played in Rich Stadium.

1. No Clue
2. Rich Stadium
3. L.A. Coliseum
4. Metrodome?
5. Foxboro?
6 & 7. Wasn't it just Giants Stadium?

#2 - Drinkyourmilkshake is correct that the stadium was Rich Stadium prior to Ralph Wilson.

#4 - Messiah & DYMS are both incorrect. Should I share the answer?

#6 - The New York Giants played at Giants Stadium. Point for DYMS

#7 - Messiah gets the square as the Jets did play at Shea Stadium.

I grew up in the Buffalo area so that was an easy one for me. I saw a few Steeler games in my day at the old Rich Stadium.

And yes the answer to #4 would be good.

DYMS - Since you grew up in Buffalo, I feel like I should share that I've had some great sports experiences there. I attended a Steelers victory at Ralph Wilson about 6-7 years ago and saw the Penguins defeat the Sabres in game 7 of the 2001 NHL playoffs.

Now that you have more information than you wanted, the Vikings played at Metropolitan Stadium which opened in 1956. The HHH Metrodome opened in 1982.

Good to know...I don't think I realized until just now (when I looked at your profile) that you live in Northern Virginia. What part? I live in a small historic town just outside of Woodbridge, VA.
